Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programme

The Erasmus Mundus programme is a co-operation and mobility programme in the field of higher education that started in 2004 and has been extended until 2013. The Erasmus Mundus programme is financed by the European Commission (EC) – the executive body of the European Union (EU) – and comprises three Actions:

  1. ACTION 1 – Joint programmes at Masters and Doctorate levels, including scholarships
  2. ACTION 2 –Partnerships with third country higher education institutions, including scholarships for mobility
  3. ACTION 3 – Promotion of European higher education.

This webpage only focuses on "Action 1", i.e. the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship scheme.

WHAT is the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are grants aimed at encouraging and enabling highly qualified students from third countries to follow selected Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses (EMMC) in the EU for a duration of 1 to 2 years.

Funds are also available for third country scholars to carry out teaching or research assignments and scholarly work of a 3-month period at the institutions participating in the EMMC.

Third country doctoral candidates can also receive fellowships for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate (EMJD) degree. These doctoral-level training and research programmes will offer fellowships covering up to three years of doctoral activities.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are exclusively reserved for EMMC and EMJD. In other words, it is not applicable for students, scholars and doctoral candidates who have been accepted by other master or doctoral programmes in Europe.
